Where to eat in Carolina, from Isla Verde to El Escorial
Carolina has two sides when it comes to eating out. In Isla Verde, along the beach, you’ll find hotel restaurants, craft breweries and terraces for the afternoon. Inland, across the rest of the municipality, are the everyday spots: Puerto Rican food, Italian, Chinese and breakfast.
This page brings together the Carolina restaurants listed on Lanzavisión, Isla Verde included. The full list is below; first, a short guide by type of cuisine.
Chef-driven cooking. José Enrique starts from Puerto Rican roots and local ingredients, then draws on Spain, Japan, France and the Mediterranean. At Bali Posh Hotel, Laut, by chef Jorge López Stella, works with local fish and seasonal produce through Asian and Mediterranean influences.
Beachfront, in the hotels. At the Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort, Meso Puerto Rico cooks Mediterranean food with island ingredients, over fire and with wine. Inside the Fairmont El San Juan, Caña serves Puerto Rican–inspired cooking and a brunch built on local ingredients, and Sushi by Bou offers a chef-led omakase of 12 or 17 pieces.
Craft beer. Ocean Lab Brewing Co. – Isla Verde pours its seasonal beers near the beach, and its Vivo Beach Club location, right by the water, suggests beer and food pairings.
Bars, rooftop and wine. ZL Rooftop sits on top of Casa Costera, with views of the sea and the city. Costa Azul Wine & Lounge mixes Puerto Rican, Spanish and French cooking, with a passion-fruit mojito made from fruit grown on its patio and live music on select evenings. CHIDO’S Mexican Grill & Wine Bar pairs Mexican food with cocktails, wine and beer, and Corchea combines seafood with a bar.
Brunch. In Isla Verde, Bistro Café is known for French toast with fruit, omelets and tropical-flavored mimosas, and La Pastizzeria, at Isla Verde Mall, combines breakfast, pizza, pasta and Puerto Rican food. Hijos de la Gran Fruta specializes in breakfast and fruit-based drinks.
Everyday spots. El Tostón Criollo, at Galerías del Escorial, serves Puerto Rican food, mofongo and seafood in a casual setting. Provo Carolina does contemporary Italian with pasta, pizza and risotto. And for Asian food, Kintaro combines sushi and Chinese cooking, while Prosperidad China adapts it to local taste, tostones included.
