Ponce is best explored in parts: the historic district around the main plaza, the hill of El Vig\u00eda and La Playa on the Caribbean. Each area has its own way of eating, and knowing where you’ll be that day settles most of the choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coffee on the plaza<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you start your day downtown, Gallo Espresso Caf\u00e9 Bar<\/a><\/strong> sits opposite the Fuente de Lucchetti on Plaza Las Delicias. It’s the stop for a coffee before walking the historic district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Downtown Ponce has two steakhouses for an unhurried meal. N\u00edspero Asador, Vinos y Cocteler\u00eda<\/a><\/strong> serves steaks, wine and cocktails in an inner courtyard around a n\u00edspero tree. Also downtown, Rinc\u00f3n Argentino<\/a><\/strong> fills an old manor house with parrilladas, steaks and empanadas, plus a few Puerto Rican touches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To eat with the city at your feet, Panorama 180<\/a><\/strong> sits next to the Cruceta del Vig\u00eda. The menu runs from steaks to tapas, with cocktails, and the panoramic view is part of the plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seafood by the water<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Down on the coast, Bah\u00edas Restaurant<\/a><\/strong>, in La Playa de Ponce, has an outdoor terrace right on the water: a good table to linger at as the evening light changes. If you’d rather see the sea from above, Brisas 419<\/a><\/strong> serves seafood, fish and stuffed mofongo on a rooftop facing the Caribbean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A different kind of dinner<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For a special night, El Rastro<\/a><\/strong> offers creative, international cooking in a speakeasy setting. The bar pours infused cocktails, wine and local craft beer, and the private garden and terrace make for an unhurried dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
